  • How To Renew Your Tourist Visa In Colombia

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 Dan DeLa Cruz No comments

I’ve been in Colombia for almost two months now. When I arrived, immigration gave me a 60 day stamp on my passport. This means that I can stay legally for 60 days within the country. Since my 60 days are almost up, I have to renew my Visa.

What happens If I don’t renew my visa? What happens is that I end up staying in the country Illegally, and I’ll have to do a whole bunch of paperwork, get stuff notarized, and pay fines in order to get my proper paperwork to be able to leave the country. It’s too much of a hassle, not to mention more expensive, so I recommend just renewing your visa the proper way which I outline below.

Most likely you’ll also get a 60 day stamp, which means that if you get close to your 60 days in Colombia, you’ll have to go to the D.A.S. which stands for “Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad” which translates to “The Administrative Department of Security.” Most large cities in Colombia have a D.A.S. agency within the city, but if you’re in a smaller city you might have to go to one of the larger ones to get your paperwork done.

If you have a local agency in your city all you need to do is hop in a taxi and tell them to take you to the D.A.S, pronounced “das”. Once you’re at the agency you’ll have to go past security and let them know you want to extend your tourist visa or “extender mi visa de turista”.

The agents in the office will ask you to photocopy a your passport as well as the original entry stamp. You’ll also have to fill out a form which should only take about 5 minutes. You’re going to have to sign the form and also take a few photocopies of it. Finally, you’ll have to go to a bank and pay a fee, based on the details they give you in the D.A.S. agency. Usually this involves going directly to a bank and paying with a certain code that you’ll be assigned.

Once you pay the fee at the bank, you bring the receipt back to the D.A.S. agency and they will process the final paperwork. All in all it took me about an hour and half to complete everything including taxi rides. Unfortunately, after your first initial stamp is up, you’ll have to repeat this process every month.

  • Your Citizenship – Your Ticket To Romantic Freedom

Various PassportsIf you’re reading this you’re probably a guy that lives or use to live in one of the wealthy, industrialized nations of the world. Like Australia, USA, England, Canada etc. One thing that you probably never stopped to think about is how powerful your citizenship is, and how much we take this for granted.

You see, there are millions of people across many countries who can’t travel outside of their country without soliciting a visa. For example, there are millions of people who solicit tourist visa’s to travel to the United States, every year, but the visa’s are limited and many people never get them because of this limitation and the strict requirements that need to be met.

You and I don’t have to worry about this. We can travel throughout the world with 100 times less restrictions then millions and perhaps billions of others. I’ve traveled to over a dozen countries and I’ve only had to solicit one visa, which was the visa to travel to Brazil.

Even the Brazil visa was really easy to obtain. It took me one whole day a trip to New York and $100. It isn’t that easy to get a tourist visa to the USA. Paperwork in foreign countries can take far longer with many more obstacles then we’re use to.

So take advantage of your citizenship. As a citizenship of an economically prosperous nation, you have free reign to travel to many countries throughout the world with just your passport, no other paperwork needed.

Don’t take this for granted. There’s probably billions of people who would love to be in your position.

To top it all off, many of the countries which will never require you to do any paperwork are countries which are filled with attractive foreign women who would be eager to meet a guy just like you.

If you think about how easily we can travel throughout the world, compared to citizens of other countries, it’s really amazing and it makes it very possible for us to take our dating global.

It doesn’t get any easier then this. Just imagine if you had to wait in line and fill out tons of paperwork and go through all this hassle just to travel to some of these places. It really would make this a lot harder, and the fact is that all you have to do is buy a plane ticket and get your ass on that plane!
