I also know of a few guys who applied for permanent residency in Colombia in the name of family unity, because they fathered a child there, so I'm sure it happens in other countries as well. In the name of family unity, the government will not generally deport the parent of a Costa Rican citizen. I know an ex-pat who did this but in agreement with his girl friend.
